Our Story

In April of 2005 the founders  of Blossom, Michele Rodriguez and Elizabeth Cregan, wanted to begin  volunteering with their children at an early age because they knew from experience that helping  others would encourage understanding, compassion, and social responsibility.  They were disappointed to find few  opportunities for family volunteering within their own communities.  Most organizations said that young  children lacked the ability to be productive volunteers and that legal  liabilities were a problem. The opportunities that were available were for tasks like stuffing envelopes, were not empowering, or were only available for older children. The  founders then decided to look at issues around them that could use their help and could also provide important volunteer  opportunities for young children.

After a little bit of trial and error during Blossom's early years,  four programs emerged. These programs all serve children and they also employ the service of young volunteers to do so.

Everyday, Blossom receives phone calls, e-mails,  and letters from groups, children, and families wanting to know how they can do  the same work in their own communities. As we look towards Blossom's future we are working hard to make replication of our programs as easy as possible for individuals, families, groups, and corporations who are interested.

Today, Blossom is a place where good things grow.
